(Japan also got this version, but we got it first.) in time to fill the gap between the Integra and the new Legend. So, they hastily came up with a wide-body Vigor with the engine expanded half a liter so they could rush it to the U.S. I suspect that what happened is that Honda started out wanting to challenge the middle-class four-door hardtops Toyota and Nissan were selling in Japan and then realized that the dollar-yen exchange rate was going to push the second-generation Legend farther upmarket than originally planned. There was actually a clone of the five-cylinder JDM Vigor called Accord Inspire, which was probably aimed at the Camry Prominent on which the ES250 was based. Frankly, I would have saved the money and gone with an Accord EX. Compared with those makes/models, the Vigor just didn’t seem that special. We also looked at the BMW 325i, Mercedes C280 and Lexus ES300. My wife and I actually looked at the Vigor when we were shopping for cars in 1994, because she had an Integra that we loved and we were big Acura fans. Acura would have been better off going with a 6-cylinder, but I assume the fear was cannibalization with the Legend. The 5-cylinder also seemed to be the answer to a question no one was asking. That left the Accord/Vigor looking too close for comfort. However, for 1992, the Lexus ES300 arrived that appeared very different than the Camry on which it was based. The approach was similar to the original Lexus ES250, which was very clearly Camry based, though different in some ways, such as the frameless door glass. I find the styling very handsome, but it did look quite like an Accord. I have a soft spot for these cars, though I can see why they didn’t do well in the marketplace. Photographed on Lancaster Street, Boston, MA February 2016 Never being an all that common sight on the roads then, the Vigor’s crisp lines, long and low hood, aggressively flared front wheel arches, and hardtop styling stand out, akin to someone whose all bone and muscle versus the plump, overweight modern cars around it.Īpart from a few typical battle scars of a car this age, minor fender and side skirt rust, very scuffed and rusty rims, and several scuffs here and there, this Vigor looks remarkably well for its age, especially considering it’s a Northeast city car, making it a true survivor.ĭisplaying unwavering vigor, this 23-year old Acura just may be finally living up to its name. Failing to make much of a name for itself, North American Vigor sales totaled just under 50,000 units. Sold for just three model years (1992-1994), the Vigor never really stood out in a crowded marketplace. The Acura Vigor lived a short and unassuming life in the mid-sized luxury car segment. In the Klondike Solitaire game, you will often run into what’s called a split. When you use this feature correctly, you can win almost every game because you can try out various options. Use the Undo button: Our game has an Undo button, which you can use to undo as many moves as you like. After all, the goal is to turn over all the hidden tableau cards as quickly as possible. Prioritize tableau cards over stock cards: You may be tempted to immediately click on the stockpile, but you should not do this until you truly have no more options available on the tableau.Once you’ve moved the top card, the second card moves up to the top position and all the other cards in the stock also move up one spot, creating new options. In this game, you deal 3 cards instead of 1, and you can only use the top card. The above rules also apply to three-card Solitaire, the only difference being that not all the cards from the stock are available. You should move a King to the empty space as soon as possible this will also uncover a new card. Once you’ve completed a pile, thus creating an empty space, only a King can fill it. With each new card, you should examine whether you can use it somewhere on the tableau in order to uncover new cards. Every time you press or click on this pile, 1 new card is dealt to the waste. When no more legal moves are possible on the tableau, we turn to the stockpile. And since the first card of a foundation always has to be an Ace, we can immediately play it to the foundation. In Figure 3, we see that after moving the 8, a new card is turned over, a black Ace. The more cards have been turned over, the greater the chances of winning the game. You can also move several cards at once if these have already been stacked on top of each other.Įvery time you move a card to another pile, a hidden card will be turned over, giving you new options. In Figure 2, for example, you can move a black 7 to a red 8. On the tableau itself, you can move the face up cards from pile to pile, alternating in color and in descending order. To win a game of Solitaire, you have to move all the cards distributed across the tableau and the stock to the 4 foundations, sorted by suit and in ascending order from the Ace to the King. The rules below concern the easy and most frequently played version, dealing 1 card. When you start a new game, you can choose whether you want to deal 1 card or 3 cards. The foundation: All the cards of the foundation, waste and tableau ultimately end up here. The waste: Once all the cards of the stock have been brought into play, they end up face up in the waste pile. The stock: After the 28 cards have been dealt into piles on the tableau, the remaining 24 cards comprise the stockpile and are turned face down.Only the last card of each pile is turned face up and the rest are turned face down. The first pile always consists of 1 card, with each subsequent pile containing 1 more card than the preceding one. The tableau: Solitaire is played with 52 cards, with 28 of them being distributed in 7 piles across the tableau. To help you learn to play the game, let’s first explain what the playing field looks like. This game has even become so popular over time that most people simply call it “Solitaire”, without the “Klondike”. Solitaire is the collective name for a large number of single-player card games, of which Klondike Solitaire is the best known. It surely won’t be the last time we see Matheson’s novel getting adapted either. It’s not surprising then that this same appropriation would happen in 2007’s I Am Legend, this time using a re-engineered measles virus developed to help cure cancer as the bug that got out of hand and wipes out the population. These sorts of films almost became known for re-purposing themselves as parables for what was going on in the times. It’s especially notable since race issues and equality were heavily part of the make-up from this period. It’s also worth mentioning that the film contains one of the first interracial onscreen kisses between Heston and Rosalind Cash. The film emphasizes the increasing threat of biological warfare, whereas before it was just an unknown plague that had decimated humanity. The initial threat has also been shifted to the Chinese and Russians, as a means of reflecting the current times. This time around, there’s certainly a less stark, ultra-serious tone to it. While largely being the same story that’s seen in The Last Man on Earth, it’s interesting to notice the subtle changes between the films. The Omega Man (1971)Īlso being an adaptation of Matheson’s I Am Legend, The Omega Man puts Charlton Heston in the leading role and jumps the year forward to 1975. Eventually, he carelessly falls asleep at his wife’s grave, awakening to the mutants being upon him, as the story takes a turn for the worse. This very chilling version of the end of the world focuses on the grueling routine that Price’s character goes through every day as he is forced to hunt and hide. They come out at night and prey on the living (as well as being weak to sunlight and vulnerable to garlic) while he is forced to stay in his home. Price’s character manages to somehow be immune and survives all of this with the rest of the world being turned into mutants that are essentially vampires. Starring a very in-his-element Vincent Price, the film posits a world where biological warfare has wiped out most of the population. The Last Man on Earth (1964)Ī fitting place to start, and often seen as the “biggest” Last Man on Earth film, is this 1964 adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic science fiction novel, I Am Legend. So, in honor of Will Forte’s new series, we decided to take a look at the 20 best “Last Man on Earth” films (or some that just focus on an ultra-dwindling population apocalypse). It’s safe to say that we’ve been fascinated with this idea and the pangs of isolation that so often accompany it. There are many different directions to take this fantastical concept, and it’s the sort of story we’ve seen played with for decades now. The Last Man on Earth, now in its second season on Fox, and the lonely premise is a fairly unusual one to transplant onto a television show, let alone a comedy. How to use Filmora Video Editor to Edit HDR Videos. Thanks to Scott Kelby for this excellent tip, I for one have been using it ever since he published it.Bonus Tip: How to Enhance Your HDR video like a Pro Using Photoshop’s Camera Raw also seems to give us finer control over the end image. When viewed at 200% the Photoshop merge seems obviously sharper than the Lightroom merge. While the Merge in HDR Pro route is slightly longer, it really does seem to produce sharper final images and better control of ghosting. There is a noticeable difference in sharpness between Lightroom HDR (left) and Photoshop HDR Pro (right) In my image, I am raising the shadows very slightly and making the water a slightly different hue with greater saturation. To edit it further click on the Develop Module at the top. Returning to Lightroom you will see the newly merged HDR as the only selected image in the Library Module. You can now close the image in Photoshop if you require. To return it to Lightroom simply click File – Save. I will make a couple of minor adjustments in Lightroom. You can now choose to make any final adjustments in Photoshop or in Lightroom. Once you click OK, the final image will be opened in Photoshop as a PSD file. Final Adjustments and Return To Lightroom. Once you are happy with the final RAW edits, click OK on the bottom right of the screen. You can see the difference the edit will make. Using the Before/After icon bottom right of the screen, we can see the effect the RAW adjustments have made. This adds further definition to the sky region. I also added a narrow Graduated Filter to the top with reduced exposure and increased clarity. I added some Dehaze to punch out the mid-tone contrast. In my image, I have pulled the Exposure up a little, raised the Blacks to reduce shadow clipping, pulled up Shadows to bring some definition into the shaded parts of the town. You can adjust the HDR as if it were a RAW file You should try to get the image as close to final as you can using ACR as when you finally click ok, the image will be output to Photoshop as a PSD. Once in Adobe RAW you can make all the adjustments we would normally make to any RAW file. Photoshop will process and merge the files into one 32 bit RAW. When you are happy with the selected images, click on Tone in ACR on the bottom right. You can select or deselect images to be in the HDR merge You can check or uncheck them to see how they will make a visual difference to your HDR merge. To the bottom left of the screen, you can also see thumbnails of the images you have selected. If you have not shot from a tripod, you should also check the Remove Ghost box. The HDR editing controls disappear and we see an option to “Complete Toning in Adobe Raw” This is checked by default, and we leave it on. However, if you click at the top right of the HDR Pro window and change 8/16 bit to 32 bit, something interesting happens. HDR Pro usually defaults to 8 or 16-bit files. In Photoshop the files are usually merged into a Photoshop PSD file. This gives you more dynamic range to play with than if the HDR was merged down to a different format. As most of you know, latest editions of Lightroom will merge RAW files into an HDR RAW. Here is the interesting thing that Scott Kelby found. Select the images to merge and open them in HDR Pro Once open you will see something like this. This will automatically open Photoshop, load the images and open HDR Pro. Right click on any of the selected images and click Edit In – Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop. The first thing we need to do is select the images that we wish to merge in Lightroom’s Library grid view. I am using a 5 image auto exposure bracket shot taken from my Phantom 4 Pro drone in Cornwall earlier this year. Today I am going to talk you through the process of taking Lightroom images through Photoshop’s HDR Pro. The end result is much sharper as Scott Kelby had suggested but also I found that the removing ghosts also seems much more efficient and accurate. I was very happy to find that HDR Pro does indeed give a much better result. Recently, he posted an article about why it’s better to move from Lightroom to Photoshop’s HDR Pro when creating High Dynamic Range images.Īs someone that brackets virtually everything, I was keen to try this out. His tutorials, posts, and discoveries often inspire me to push my Adobe boundaries. I am a big fan of Lightroom and Photoshop guru, Scott Kelby. However, under certain circumstances, it might be convenient to redefine what ‘native’ means, for example, when you’re working on a project on Windows but frequently uploading it to a Unix server. Usually, text files are stored with their ‘native’ EOL Style in the Subversion repository. You can more about EOL Style at the ‘ Subversion Properties: EOL-Style’ blog post. The ‘In case of inconsistent EOLs’ allows you to define how SmartSVN should handle files with inconsistent EOLs. Platform-Dependent/Native – files contain EOL markers native to your operating system. The ‘EOL Style’ option specifies the end-of-line style default for your current project. Different operating systems use different characters to represent EOL in a text file, and some operating systems struggle when they encounter unexpected EOL markers. Subversion doesn’t pay attention to a file’s end-of-line (EOL) markers by default, which can be a problem for teams who are collaborating on a document across different operating systems. To access SmartSVN’s Project Settings, open the ‘Project’ menu and select ‘Settings.’ The different options are listed on the dialog box’s left-hand side. In this post, we take a closer look at the changes you can make to Subversion’s properties, on a project-by-project basis using SmartSVN’S ‘Project Settings’ menu. You can easily change how SmartSVN handles all your Apache Subversion projects using the popular, cross-platform client’s ‘global preferences’ settings. |
